Analogies 3 is composed of 3 or 4 Vocabulary Groups of 100 words each, with the alphabetized and defined words representing some of the most challenging vocabulary used in the analogies. Techniques from the previous books in the series are also reviewed.
Why teach analogies? Studying analogies helps students to sharpen reasoning ability, develop critical thinking, understand relationships between words and ideas, learn new vocabulary, and prepare for the SATs and for standardized tests. Each of the 3 books in this useful series consists of 3 parts written in a clear, conversational style with few technical terms. While the nature of the instructional material in all three books is similar, the amount of attention given to it—discussion, examples, and exercises—decreases as the level of the book increases. Quiz booklets with perforated pages, intended for photocopying, are available to test both vocabulary and analogy problem-solving skills.
